OK, so a lot of people have been bitching about the North is Freedom sculpture. Dude already said, when he was interviewed on Mainstreet, that it'll be rusty for a couple of years, then it'll harden into a sexy tough knobbly metal finish. Patience, people, patience.

I've read lots of bitches and replies regarding smoking at Metro Transit bus terminals.

I'd like to add a thought: we can't expect people to follow the "No smoking" directive when the transit drivers themselves are setting the example by stepping off their buses between runs and lighting up, many times directly under the signs.

I walked past the Mumford terminal and lost count of the smokers, drivers and riders both, puffing away. A couple of young pups had also sparked up a fattie steps away from a bus and the sweet aroma of 420 lingered for all to enjoy.

Clearly, the by-law is not working. It's time to either station a dedicated enforecement officer at each terminal or just strike the by-law from the books. I doubt either will happen.

I would like to remind all you transit user-types that catching the bus is not worth your life. You've probably seen it, a passenger sees a bus they want and they're on the wrong side of the street. This usually sane person will then run across moving traffic and mow down pedestrians for the sake of catching a bus; a bus that comes every 15 minutes I might add. Once, I even saw someone drag their daughter across Chain Lake Drive (4 lanes, all busy) to catch a 52. We all hate transit to some degree and we don't like the idea of missing a bus, but is your life so worthless that you'd give it up to not have to wait 15 minutes? Do you care about your kids so much that you'd risk their lives too? It's one thing to run for a bus on the sidewalk, you're not going to get hit by anything that can kill you. It's another when you're playing Frogger on expert. Don't ruin a bus driver's life knowing that their bus was the reason you just had to die that day. This is especially true of the #1, but it applies to all routes, even the ones that run every hour.

Even better, try being at the stop a couple of minutes early. This will avoid looks from passengers who just want to get home and/or a driver passing you by. Your life is precious, treat it that way!

Hey you assholes with car alarms - do you really think everybody needs to hear your horns incessantly blaring for no good reason while you're doing whatever shitheads like yourselves do when you're away from your cars? If I ever saw one of your vehicles actually being stolen I'd probably help the thief just to get your fucking noisy piece-of-shit automobile out of my otherwise peaceful neighbourhood. Why don't all of you just muffle the unwelcome honks and shrieks of your obnoxious car alarms by shoving them up your self-absorbed inconsiderate asses?

What's with the hiring practices at a local candy shop? They hire 3 or 4 people, pick one to keep and fire the rest after just 3 or 4 shifts. Is this legal? Moral? Or just poor business practice? And further evidence of their lack of class, they fire these "extra" employees over the phone!! Just because they are dealing with teens they treat them without common courtesy and respect. Shame on you, I won't set foot in your overpriced store again!

PO'd in Dartmouth

I live in an apartment building owned by TransGlobe in Dartmouth. I had bought all my furniture in the last 6 months. And yet, I have been bitten by bed bugs about 20 times a day for 4 months before I realized there has been an outbreak in the building for numerous months prior. When I confronted the landlord, he says "6-7 tenants have had bed bugs for years, but since we didn't want to cause mass panic, we didn't tell you". I had to throw away my brand new mattress set and several linens and clothing items. I have several scars from the bites and my doctor says they may be permanent. I had to live in hotels for days before Braemar Pest Control came and fumigated the apartment. I have been sleeping on an air mattress for the last week since I can't bring in a new bed into the apartment until Pest Control sprays again in a week. My whole life has been turned upside down and I'm completely broke!

Those who are about to rent from them, DON'T!!! All their buildings are bed bug infested and they will not do anything about it!
