I love Friday the 13th. I usually have a fabulous day, and I try to encourage other people to do the same. I don't know what it is - I don't really believe in luck, but maybe it is just knowing that if I really DID have a bad day, I could blame it on the date. I'm having a GREAT day, and I'm high on life.

To the cab driver who picked us up at the seahorse last night and took us to SMU: you are way too cute. I'll never forget your tales of Ahmed Shorty. You'll be hearing from us soon! :)

When a friend from Ontario visited, I told him. I said, "If you smile at women in Halifax, even in bars, they'll smile back. Sometimes they might even say hi, unprompted!" A veteran of the grim meat-markets of Toronto, he didn't believe me, but I showed him the friendly way it goes around here.

Even out on the street, it happens. This morning in the pouring, freezing rain, you were wearing a yellow slicker crossing at Robie and Cunard, I was plugged into my iPod. I caught your eye and your smile was the sweetest thing I saw all day. This has been a freezing, fucked-up winter, but you reminded me there are benefits to living here: All you sweet, smiling women.

On February 12 there were very icy road conditions, so I did not take my car---because I dress for vanity and not weather conditions. It was a very dicey walk to the bus stop, when I got there and climbed the mountain of ice to get in to the bus shelter (thanks HRM snow removal), there was a young guy there, plugged into his ipod and basically just being a kid. Anyway the bus showed up, the young kid got on the bus and as I went to climb the mountain to get on the bus, the kid who I now will refer to as a young gentleman, turned and offered his hand to help me on the bus. I was touched beyond words, to say the least! Thank you kind stranger...

Love this:

"Surely we can do better. Drive-thrus are a symbol of everything wrong with our culture. It's not good enough that someone else grows, ships and makes our coffee for us, oh no, it has to be delivered direct to our SUV window as we idle in a line of foreign-made, big-ticket, steel-and-glass weapons of local destruction we like to call cars." ---In the Drive-thru Madness article by Chris Benjamin

Good work, Chris

This is to my cat: You are the cutest thing ever. I've only had you for 5 months, but you're one of my best friends. I can't understand how you went homeless for so many years. You don't claw the furniture, jump on counters, or beg for our dinner. You welcome us home at night. You curl up on my feet when I go to bed, and you are there, eagerly waiting for breakfast, when I get up in the morning.

You are the best. I love you!

To the girl on Friday night on Spring Garden Road, you were doing a scavenger hunt with a lot of people, you had to kiss me for 5 seconds in front of CIBC and HMV. Made my night, ha ha :). Wish i would run into you again

To the incredibly good-hearted samaritan that discovered my cell phone in the snow on the corner of Quinpool and Robie on Friday night ... you are fantastic and I really just wanted to express my thanks. I called you at 3am and you answered to tell me you had it and dropped it off at the Holiday Inn where I picked it up this morning. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU .. glad to have people like you out there :)
