Love the Way We Love | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

Dear Halifax, I miss you. I love Munich, it's people, it's public transportation system, it's climate, the beer festivals every 6 weeks, it's public transportation system, the proximity to the Alps, the near-complete lack of violence... But when everything's going wrong, and I'm awake at 3am fretting about poverty, unemployment, unpaid wages, imminent homelessness, and how I'm going to manage to put the next meal on the table, all I want is to be at home in Hali, taking refuge in the sound of the ocean against the rocks and the smell of the sea. You have your problems, I know, but I can forgive you most of them, and love you despite them all. I've been to many places, in many countries, and lived in a fair few, but home will always be Halifax.

Sometimes the winter months depress me and make me want to move far far away from this place. But now as the summer comes close my heart fills with love for the east coast. We've got music coming outdoors. Yay! Tragically Hip, Metric and others. Lets get drunk and try to enjoy KISS anyways. Lets just feel the love for the city and have a good time this summer. See you on the Hill.

To the man who helped me pick up all the loose change that I dropped while getting on the number 7 this afternoon (and the bus driver, who patiently waited for us to gather it all up) - thank you so much! It's good people like you who make me remember why I love living in Halifax :)

I love you Halifax! I lived here for over a decade, and started taking you for granted: the buses were always off-schedule; the small size was starting to cramp my style; there was nothing left for me to explore. I left for BC thinking, this is it Halifax--we're breaking up. Boy was I wrong! BC is fine but crazy expensive, and the Pacific Ocean is no match for the sheer sublimity of my fierce Atlantic and the awe-inspiring blizzards it whips up. The people, my loving friends who never lost touch with me after I defected...I missed you so much, Halifax. I'm home now. Home. And I'm so grateful that even though I broke up with you, you still love me and take me back with open arms. I'll never leave you again. Marry me? :)

As a transplant from the "wet" coast, a huge shout out for NS and all within her borders. I like many, have travelled extensively throughout this huge country. I have live In Ottawa, Calgary, NB, and was born and raised in Victoria. My final move was to here, with an option to move anywhere else in Canada. Well, there was no point in moving, as it was love at first "hello". Since settling here almost 5 years ago, my stress level had decreased to nil. zip, nadda. People wave and say hi to strangers, they lend a hand, they move slower. After decades in the fast lane, this is paradise. For those who love to mock, berate and belittle your home, head out to "the real world" for a while...come back and let us know how green the grass is there :)

thanks for stopping to chat with a sunburnt busker yesterday. even though I didn't make much coin, your interest made my day. I hope you can continue advocating for music education in public schools, out of office and with a smile on.

To all the students who screened their films last night at park lane: thanks. I don't go out to the movies often but you made that one worth the trip. Good luck in your careers.
