A past love introduced this little Coast gem to me. Almost daily I take time to read and enjoy the loves (not the bitches) that are sent from one east coaster to the other. I wanted to share something with you all. Two weeks ago I was reading this column from my father's bedside—I waited with him for a week as he passed away. I read this column a lot and will forever remember the escape it gave me during that time.

Shortly after he died, I received a note about loss—and while this is about a passing—I thought it resonated well with losing a lover as well; the feeling is so close to that of a death:

"The pain doesn't leave, it just gets different. Grief seems to be the exclamation mark for love, but in truth it is more of a prism."
