Waiting for the light to turn at the intersection of North and Windsor, I saw a most lovely scene. A young woman had dropped a big pile of important-looking papers all over the sidewalk and street and they were blowing all about in the wind. Several passersby stopped and helped her collect them all from both sides of the street! Even a couple of cars stopped (not endangering anyone) so that people could help pick up the papers. I was so impressed by the kindness of strangers. We really do live in a great city.

To the officer who sang Leftover Cracks’ "One Dead Cop" with my friend who was in the back seat of your car after she got beat up: Thank you. Take it down from the inside!

You asked me where I came from—I had been knocking about in my parallel universe. Wrong time, wrong circumstances—but I'd rather pass on heartbreak than nibble on table crumbs. I am not one for compartmentalization; so you must remain an unfulfilled desire. I ask: are you able to love, and desire, one woman? Risk vulnerability? Burn the boxes in which you place us? I think this is your karma.

There's no doubt in my mind a place as sweet as yours would have tea and cookies as a part of their daily special. But instead I'm going to assume you were extending some kindness my way after noticing the teary lunch I was having. It was very thoughtful. I appreciated it a lot, and will be back so much more often—even once the patio is gone for the season.
