I have been wanting to post a “thank you” to the kind gentleman who gave my car a push out of the snow on a Dartmouth intersection last year. There was a storm some time shortly after Christmas, 2014. My vehicle got stuck in the intersection and the gentleman, whose car was also stuck, came to my aid and pushed my vehicle not once, but twice (as the car became stuck again shortly after gaining traction). I never even thought to beep the horn to thank you, but I really appreciate what you did for me! You were so kind and helpful! Thank you very much. —Very Thankful

waiting for a prescription to be filled at a central downtown pharmacy and I noticed a guy with a sort of manic, fidgety gait about him buying sharps at the counter. something about him - his unsteady posture, the ice cream sundae in his hand, the fact that he was buying in bulk - seemed a little off to me and I suspected those sharps weren't destined to be used for insulin.

I started to live-tweet it out of boredom, like oh look at wacky, sketchy halifax, but something in the behaviour of the pharmacy staff made me reconsider. normally I'm the kind of asshole that loves to judge all over people's shady business but I was really impressed with how they served him discretely, nonchalantly, and with courteous respect. They even gave him a sharps bucket so he'd have a place to dispose of the needles afterwards. this guy was out to make some questionable decisions but they were taking care of him the best way they could, which is pretty cool. IV drug use is some shady, dangerous stuff but I'm glad that there are people users can go to who will treat them fairly and kindly.

so props to the staff, for being respectful and kind. it's easy to gawk at strangers and make snap judgements about their lives, but they made compassion look effortless. —The hippocratic oaf

I was desperately trying to make it to the airport on time. My car was broken down on the side of the highway. I was cold and crying with my thumb stuck out. You stopped, even though you don't normally pick up hitch hikers. You drove me to the airport, where I was only a minute late to greet my boyfriend. You saved the day! —Damsel in distress

To the cutie in the red sweater working in the local craft store: tonight you offered a box and Christmas wrap for two of the teeniest presents I could purchase. I said no to both, still reeling from my asshat week and cranky to boot. Then, at my disheveled-est, you told me my hair with soft curls was cute. I wasn't nearly as responsive as I should have been, but your sweet comment left me in tears on the bus home. That was officially the best thing that's happened to me in weeks—I wish I'd said yes to your box when it was on offer. —Still Cranky But Now About Missing My Chance

How glorious to live in a city that can take you out on the water for $2.50 as a way to kick off/continue a big night out! And how extra-wondrous it is, when it's the last late ferry on a Friday, and there are beautiful people to meet willing to take a chance on random, Guinness-fueled dancing adventures with strangers. Thanks for entertaining us old guys, kiddo, and good luck on your LSATs. Too bad we didn't get your number, but perhaps we'll keep our eyes out for you on the boat in 2016. —Sazeracs-to-go

To the man in the red rain jacket behind me in line at Sobey's Wednesday evening with the wonderful smile. I really wish I had said something instead of smiling awkwardly, turning away and blushing. You may not have even noticed me, but I totally noticed you. Keep smiling :) —The curly haired girl in the pink rain jacket
