I want to give a shout out to the folks at a very Noble store on Oxford street. I recently used services at your sister location and had a really bad experience. When I popped into your Oxford location to fix the situation and explained what had happened (not looking to gain anything, rather, just to explain why I was there for what I needed), the employee went way, WAY above and beyond what I could have imagined for customer service. He was funny, helpful, sympathetic and just had a gift for turning a negative situation into a positive one. It’s nice to see the art of good customer service isn’t lost after all. —Not One To “Wine”

waiting for a prescription to be filled at a central downtown pharmacy and I noticed a guy with a sort of manic, fidgety gait about him buying sharps at the counter. something about him - his unsteady posture, the ice cream sundae in his hand, the fact that he was buying in bulk - seemed a little off to me and I suspected those sharps weren't destined to be used for insulin.

I started to live-tweet it out of boredom, like oh look at wacky, sketchy halifax, but something in the behaviour of the pharmacy staff made me reconsider. normally I'm the kind of asshole that loves to judge all over people's shady business but I was really impressed with how they served him discretely, nonchalantly, and with courteous respect. They even gave him a sharps bucket so he'd have a place to dispose of the needles afterwards. this guy was out to make some questionable decisions but they were taking care of him the best way they could, which is pretty cool. IV drug use is some shady, dangerous stuff but I'm glad that there are people users can go to who will treat them fairly and kindly.

so props to the staff, for being respectful and kind. it's easy to gawk at strangers and make snap judgements about their lives, but they made compassion look effortless. —The hippocratic oaf

To the barrista from the Halifax waterfront location of my favourite Dartmouth coffee house... your kindness when you throw in the last little 'bit' might seem like a small gesture but it makes my day! You've done this for me now, not once, but twice and it never fails to make me smile! I love croissants and I love you guys... Spreading the love and eating butter. —Croissant Lover

To the officer who sang Leftover Cracks’ "One Dead Cop" with my friend who was in the back seat of your car after she got beat up: Thank you. Take it down from the inside! —Still Hate the Police But You A’ight

We've had some great trips together in great cities—Montreal, Detroit (yeah rock on!), et cetera. But the last two weeks have reminded me how f-ing great Halifax is. I didn't want to tell you the day you left for Italy I lost my job—why worry you? The weather has been great and made this bearable without you, and getting messages from you has really helped. I love you, and looking forward to gettin' back to work when you return this week! xo —Ms. Naples

Today was garbage day. The first garbage day since my partner of over 25 years passed away. We had so many family and friends gather at our home to support and join us in our grief. It was a wonderful celebration of his life. As I organized the garage this morning, I realized my "kitchen angels" from near and far, did not fully understand our "garbage and recycling rules." We had TWO huge green garbage bags and not a clear bag in sight. I left a note on the garbage cans explaining the situation and asked them to take the extra bag "this one time.” They took all the garbage and took their time to leave a note saying, "That's no problem at all. Sorry for your loss,” Signed their names with a byline: “Your friendly neighbourhood garbage men." Such compassion warmed my heart. —Inaugural Member of Team Pat

The other day I came to your stand about ten minutes before it closed, and asked if you still had coffee left. I was tired from work and was hoping to grab a quick cup before dance. You didn't have any coffee on, I said that was fine, but you put on a pot for me anyway and gave me a leftover cookie. Thank you for being so nice xo —Made My Day

Reason number 756 why the Halifax Regional Library is great. Misplaced my debit card sat. Card does not have my name on it. Returned ( yes, overdue) books today....and an eagle eyed librarian found it stuck in the pages....and called me!!!!!!! And no, says the menopausal woman, I have no idea how it got there. It was last seen at sketchy tire/bridal store. —Halifax Regional Library

Staff at the Halifax Central Library: not only are you helpful, cheery and knowledgeable, but you're all so damn cute. I don't mind overdue notices at all when you give me your smiles with 'em. You glow in the natural light. —Why yes I would like more information

Much love to the under-appreciated barista who professionally handled the smug douche with the wrong change calling you “Sweetie.” I’m sure you get that all too often in a day. I would have thrown his tea the jerk’s face, but you were a class act. Sorry you have to put up with that bologna. —His Shirt Was Ugly Too
