Every time you come back from out west , I am reminded just how sexy you are! Your curves are in all the right places , your eyes catch me looking. You should quit your job and move back here and be my teacher!

Its great to see the city planting interesting trees around the city instead of the usual elms which are susceptible to disease and are not all that great looking. Recently I have seen Ginkgo Biboas, paperbark maples, black robe locusts(stunning tree I had never seen before)birches and several other unique varieties. I hope the city continues to beautify the streetscape by planting these kinds of ornamental trees as it makes for a more interesting landscape.

No matter how far I go, no matter how long I'm gone, this city never fails to welcome me with open arms and an abundance of love. This past week has been too short! Thank you for the breakfast dates, the red wine at midnight, the Jazz Festival dance parties, the walks along the waterfront, the hugs and the feeling of acceptance and joy this place lends to me. I love you, my friends. Until next time <3 —Mason Jars

I traveled back to Halifax last weekend with my 88 year old grandfather for my graduation and had 3 particular things happen to me for which thanks are owed. First, to the wonderful car rental employee who gave me a free upgrade to a sweet ride as a happy graduation present, then to the man in the Quinpool Superstore parking lot that got the keys to that sweet ride out of the sewer grate into which I had clumsily dropped them (my Bosnian hero!), and finally to all the wonderful people that treated my grandfather with such incredible kindness - servers, hotel staff, the guy who sold him a tie when he realized he'd forgotten to pack one, the young women at Point Pleasant who let him cuddle with their puppy, the baker at the Seaport Market who sold him 'the best goddamn cinnamon bun' (his words) of his life, and so many others. My grandpa is 88 years young, still works, still travels, still drinks his daily martini and finds the joy in every day. He had an "exhilarating" (again, his word) weekend in town, so thanks for showing us your A-game.
Halifax, I am so grateful for the time we got to know each other and am quite heart broken to say goodbye. Thanks for everything. —XO

From a thousand miles away I can't really see the fog and the rain and the cold, so maybe that's why I miss you so much. I miss your streets and your history; your views and your corners; your shorelines and your curves. I miss you, Nova Scotia, dreadfully. Even the fog. —Far, Far Away

I get it. Its tough out there. Like real tough. I'm also prone to sad chats that consist of despairing questions and shaking fists. I say, "Where can we go from here? Things are really getting worse and worse," and even on occasion "$%& this province.” But we need to find a silver lining to this dark story that we keep telling each other. I think we've got to find a reason to fight, to stay, to make it work. And I don't think our reason for caring is going to come from outside opportunities, or the established folks or the experts. I think it has to come from our own individual little changes, our own smiles and our ability to find moments of generosity, creativity and ingenuity here. I'm not saying that we should ignore the issues. Please don't ignore the problems, or the corruption or the injustice. Let's not get apathetic. Instead of pointing my finger at your youth, or your pension or your politics, I just want to hold you when it gets rough. Because I like this place...you could even say I love it. And I really want to stay and I really want to stay here with you.

To the patient motorists who cheered while a male mallard duck ushered his mate across Cole Harbour Road...keep it up! Next time, there will be ducklings in tow. —Seth

Actually, Thursday, but who's keeping track? These last few weeks have been a trial, but I want to share all the good vibes I'm feeling. You know, I've never said this before, but I love you, Halifax. And we're going to make it. —Up Early
