Last year’s winner was the perennially cheesy and totally overused “How you doin’?” and we’re pleased to see that this old standby has been relegated to third place. In our dismay at 2004’s winner, we said we’d be looking for something slightly more refined in 2005, but instead, we ended up with “Hi.” Is this really the best we can do? Tens of thousands of bright, articulate people in the city, and this is the best that anyone can manage? Then again, maybe it’s a matter of taking “Hi” and developing it into something better. Like, “Hi, can I buy you a drink?” Now there’s class.
