Best Radio Show

When Portia Clark answers The Coast’s call to speak about receiving the Best of Halifax honours—a shade after 9:45 in the morning—she’s already put in most of a workday, well before many Haligonians have taken their first coffee break. Such is the life—and dedication—of a morning radio host on Halifax’s most popular radio station: “Dark and early” is the tongue-in-cheek phrase used in the industry. Not that Clark minds the hours, if it means hearing people’s stories every day.

“My favourite part is being able to speak to Nova Scotians about things that matter to them,” she tells the Coast.

This isn't the first Best of Halifax gold Clark's Information Morning has won, but it's still an honour that “means the world,” Clark says. “You never know who’s listening or how they’re listening, except when people meet you in public and tell you, ‘Oh, I listen to you every morning,’ or ‘I always have you on when I wake up.’ “I feel like I have lots of friends out there, because people come up and say, ‘I feel like I've known you forever.’”
