Best Comics Store

Hello, True Believers. Something is amiss in the world of the city's Best Comics Store! Strange Adventures Halifax, which was inducted to the Best of Halifax Hall of Fame back in 2017, has somehow returned to active competion and won this year's comic shop gold. How did this happen? It's a short story.

Strange Adventures never quite felt comfortable in the lofty reaches of the Hall of Fame. Coast lore has it that they started protesting their elevation to the hall as soon as it happened, and although these complaints were easy for us to put off for a while—the readers had spoken, the unbroken streak of gold wins was an honour to be recognized, rules are rules—this year the Best Comics Store category itself faced a crisis. Best of Halifax tradition says there must be at least seven contenders to include a category in the awards competition. Thanks to global capitalism and other sinister forces working against awesome local boutique retailers, the Halifax of 2024 no longer has enough comic stores to merit the category…unless you count Strange Adventure Halifax.

So we could either eliminate comics shop from the awards completely, or let Strange back into competition to round out the numbers. You know how that decision went. Our rules had put us in this bind and breaking our rules got us out of it, for better or worse.
