Hey Coast, maybe check to see if an event or organization still exists before showering praise on them with your annual excuse to sell ads, how about? Want a joke? Look no further than Halifax. Why’d the local stand-up comic leave for Toronto? Because newspapers there at least gives a six about comedy. —Halloween was last week

I realize that you are probably still riding a high from your recent electoral win and keen to get to work. But I'm pretty sure that if any elected official was greeted by an enthusiastic supporter while exiting a Dartmouth shopping mall on a Saturday morning with the words “Stick it to the ***** man,” said elected official should probably come up with a better response “You gotta do what you gotta do.” Voter apathy aside, I'd have to hazard a guess that with the changing demographics of your district, your win was as a result of votes from more than a few ***** men (and women) —Judge Dread

What is with you students?! Groceries everyday, and you can't figure out the reusable bags?!?!? You are all wearing backpacks and the reusable bag could be stored in there, until you get to the store—where you go ever day, which is great! You gotta eat. I'm not sure if i'm alone on this one, but the planet could use less plastic waste. And this is the number-one offender!! Never mind the packaging required to keep shit processed food “fresh.” What a joke. Don't fret though, just try to remember a bag when you go to the store to buy stuff, ok? —Taylor

To those morons who drive through the flashing red lights of a stopped school bus: it means you are required by law to stop! It also means we are picking students up or dropping them off! Many of our buses have cameras, and we are catching license plate numbers, vehicle and driver descriptions and reporting them to police. The fine for the first offense is close to $500 and six points against your license. Pay attention for the safety of school children! —We Are Watching!

Dear Hallowe'en enthusiasts, There exists a fine line between Hallowe'en spooky and absolute gore. I am not usually one to comment on others creative expression, but I have to say something this year. I appreciate that you have an enthusiasm for this holiday. I do too.. However, when you are decorating and/or planning your costumes, I really want to encourage you to think about who may see your decor unintentionally. This year my neighbour decorated their home with hanged figures from her porch. Understanding the spirit of the holiday, I chose to drive around the block rather than drive by it due to the traumatic response it gives me (due to a family member dying this way) but the first time I saw it really threw me into a bad state. Over the past week, I have observed a number of vehicles driving around with fake human limbs hanging out of their trunk... and I had to think that again, while 'tis the season, it's really not fair to anyone who has been through that reality to have to replay it. Halloween has always been about ghouls, ghosts and goblins. Add in zombies and vampires if you want - but please PLEASE leave out the realistic human gore for those of us who may unintentionally be traumatized by it. —The friendly witch next door

To the man who couldn't wait a few seconds for me to pass before "manoeuvring" your gas guzzling vehicle and then felt the need to tell me out his window I was walking on private property. I wish my response had of been different than the one I gave you. I should have said, "You have no right to tell me I am breaking the law when you are clearly parking in a no parking zone, Jerk!" —I think right of way over time rules apply in my favour

What the fuck makes you think you're so special that you get to leave on time while everyone else in the finance dept stays 2 hours longer every day? You're behind so when I asked you to stay until the work is done, you don't tell your boss, "only if you pay me overtime..."! You and your co-workers are on salary and we don't pay overtime. And I don't know what world you live in, but most employers don't pay overtime and it's typical for salaried employees to work more than 40 hours a week. It's our year end, so I asked you to come in on Saturday, you ask if you get an 'in lieu of' day off in the week! No, you're behind, and we needed you to work that extra day! What the fuck is the point of getting you in on a Saturday to catch up when you're just going to take a week day off??? Then you have the nerve to say no and that you're not paid enough to be married to your job! You're getting $30,000/year for fucks sake! Some employers pay their finance staff less than that, so you are lucky to work for us! You're the most self entitled brat. Some staff work 12 hour workdays here and some take work home, and do they complain? No! It's called having a good work ethic!! Get one, lazy ass! —Frustrated supervisor

Oh god, you are haunting my soul. You say you hated high school - But to me you were one of the only reasons I ever loved it. Running into you unearthed some very, very heavy emotion. I close my eyes and all I am greeted with is the sight of the piercing cerulean of your eyes. This torrent of emotion is breaking my soul. I fell for you again, instantly. A turgent current passionately embraced by every fiber of my being. I always burnt a candle brightly for you - just this chance encounter has it burning as hotly as ever. I'm sorry for lying to you but at the time saying I was okay was the best course of action. My heart is being torn apart honestly - I thought I would never feel anything this like again. How long do I have to wait to tell you that I love you? —Taxis & Trenchcoats

Hey media outlets, not all of us parents support a teachers strike! Teachers say their Service Award is non-negotiable, so clearly at least part of their problem is the money. They get up to $20,000 at the end of their career through this award, and that's on top of their healthy pension. Should taxpayers pay for that payout? NO! Teachers are also saying they will walk out because they have too much student tracking to do. Please tell me how knowing the strengths and needs of your students is a bad thing? Wouldn't that make customizing your lessons easier? Oh, right, it cuts into the time you have to give extra help—well how about doing that paperwork during the monthly PD day, or during your March Break, or say, during one of your OFF periods? Gee, time management is SO hard. But, please, tell me again how this is “all about the children.” When I was a student teacher I remember the NSTU boasting about how it literally runs the public school system and can get the government to do what it wants if they threaten to strike. That's the type of union attitude that makes me sick. (I did not end up joining the NSTU.) Our children are legally entitled to an education—no, not a babysitting service, but an education. If they go on strike, they are violating our children's legal right to an education, plain and simple. So NO, this parent does not support the NSTU. —Anti-NSTU
