I sympathize—you thought you were going to get your children some toys. Your children, doubtless, deserve toys. The thing is, when it turned out you'd misread the price, there's nothing a cashier can do about it—the "scanning code of practice" protects you from mislabeling, not misreading. So, you were essentially asking the cashier to break the rules for you. I think she should have, but, let's face it, she's almost certainly been subject to decades of capitalist ideological indoctrination that your tantrum in no way addressed. I think you missed a wonderful teaching moment to say, "Look kids, Galen Weston Jr. rakes in billions of dollars denying toys to children over a measly twenty bucks. This is how a society based on wage labour and commodity production devalues real human beings. And this poor, underpaid cashier is expected to run damage control for the bourgeoisie!" Instead, you acted like a jerk. Don't be a jerk, we're all in this together. —Woblaws

Dude, everyone knows you're faking cancer again, as if someone is capable of doing that more than once. For the sake of everyone involved, please come clean. You don't have to lie about it. If you are you completely yourself, no BS, I'm sure you'll find someone to love you for you. This is just ridiculous. People aren't stupid! —The truth will set you free

Co-op housing in Halifax at one time were community based and were for FAMILIES, not single people and couples. There is a housing shortage in this city and meanwhile single people and couples are living in three and four bedroom co ops and getting reduced rent... If you are one of these types, move on and let someone who NEEDS it move in. —FED UP

I am a student at a local university, I have spent a lot of money to go to school to learn and I don't appreciate other students constantly talking during class. it is rude and disrespectful. If chatting (and using Facebook) during class is more important than listening then get the fuck out. I have had to ask several of you disrespectful little shits to be quiet and I shouldn't have to. The profs work hard on their lectures and deserve a little more than what they are getting. Show some respect. —A student who cares

So twice in one week I witnessed a metro transit bus barreling into a clearly marked crosswalk and a pedestrian just barely jumping back in order to avoid being hit. Two different times, different places, but in both places it was very obviously the pedestrian's right-of-way (green light, walking person all aglow one time, the other time a marked crosswalk with the lights flashing  and beeps sounding). What's the deal? —Ugh

You were parked in your muscled-up pick-up truck (idling! who still idles their car in 2017, seriously?) in one of the school accessible parking spots waiting to pick up your precious snowflake, without, of course, the required permit. When I pointed to you that you were not supposed to use these spots if you weren't entitled to it, you reassured me with "there are other spots and it's only for a couple of minutes". I thought to myself, “Hey everyone, THE JERK SAID IT'S OK to use an accessible spot WITHOUT A PERMIT if it's only for a couple of minutes, everyone park up! Sorry I was being considerate for people in actual need of those spots, you really eased my conscience there, thanks!” NOT. I really hope that you never become in need of accessibility and have to face inconsiderate assholes like yourself who think the law doesn’t apply to them "if it’s only for a couple minutes." —Considerate (parent of disabled kid) human being

The impact of this tax grab is hidden in the supposedly low cost of $0.06 per kilometre or between $0.42 and $21.81 per toll, depending on the highway stretch.

The estimated cost on twinning the highways is $ 2.8 Billion which equates to an average cost of $7,236,842.11 per kilometre. I could not find a cost this high anywhere in Canada. We already pay some of the highest taxes in the country. We have Federal and Provincial gas tax, registration fees, licensing fees not to mention Provincial, Federal income tax, Property Tax, Tolls already in place and any applicable sin taxes plus whatever taxes I may not know about and of course HST in addition to these.

We all know how talented politicians are when it comes to squandering our hard earned tax dollars.  Adding a toll, to our after tax dollars, is just another way of taking more Tax dollars out of the pockets of already heavily burdened taxpayers.

User pay seems to be the general belief in Road tolls tax based on usage. There is no transit system on these routes so we don’t have a choice. If you use the road more than other people you already pay more in fuel tax. The user already has maintenance costs, snow tires, more frequent vehicle purchases, insurance premiums etc., all resulting in more HST collected.

Some people have raised the point that more wealthy people drive and therefore justify the toll. Although wealthy people drive so do lots of lower income working people. This is in essence a tax on an essential service necessary for well-being, which everyone should be able to access. A tax or fee on an essential service that is not based on ability to pay is regressive. I consider roads an essential service as I depend on them to travel from the Valley to the city for gainful employment for which taxes are collected.

I believe the twinned highways will reduce the number of collisions but could be offset by the increase in accidents on the secondary routes as congestion increases when people try to avoid the tolls.

Then there is the additional administration to be put in place, including additional people and technology required to monitor and collect the toll tax…Road tolls won’t give us the net revenue we need any time soon, nor will they address our most pressing operating budget issues. They will only bury us further in taxes. If efficiency is of no concern we could always use the transfer payments. This would only use 1.5 payments. —Richard

My bitch is bugging the heck out of me. there was/is to be a court date for those 4 people who kidknapped and perpetrated hates crime on that autistic boy in Chicago. YTet there is not one mention of their hate crimes in any news paper or tv news that i can see. The last mention of it i can see is from 2 months ago. why is this not being reported on? Thank you. —Equal?

Why would anyone want to live in this city? There are no jobs unless you want to work on a casual basis with no benefits and be tortured by permanent staff because they know they have you over a barrel because they know there is no decent work out there. Workplace harassment, no lunch breaks oh and the boss says cover for me I have a nail appointment??? — It’s not what you know Helifax!
