3 Films 3 Responses to Residential Schools Screening and Discussion

Join Saskatchewan filmmakers Janine Windolph and Trudy Stewart and Waycobah elder Magit Poulette for a screening of three films that examine the impact and response to the residential school system. Elder Trudy Paul will open the event with a prayer and Douglas Knockwood will lead the post-screening discussion.

RIIS from Amnesia, Windolph and Stewart's latest documentary, features descendants of the Regina Indian Industrial School, elders and historians as they explore and discuss the school's history and multi-generational impacts.

Dancing the Space In-between is a ten-minute dance film inspired by the unmarked graves of children who died at the Regina Indian Industrial School. The film was completed just two days before its creators, Lacy Morin-Desjarlais and Michele Sereda were killed in a tragic car accident north of Regina.

Magit’s Doll, created by Magit Poulette, students of We’koqom’a Mi’kmaw School, Rob Smith, Lindsay Dobbin and Ann Verrall tells the story of Magit's time at the Shubenacadie Residential School. She created dolls from cleaning rags after her doll was taken away and now teaches students how to make rag dolls of their own.
