CelloFellos: Global Grooves

Canadian cellist Bryan Cheng, our 2025/26 Musician-in-Residence, and German cellist Leonard Disselhorst bring their exciting “Global Grooves” program to Halifax to open our 37th season. This performance blends jazz, tango, folk, and classical genres, showcasing the cello’s remarkable range and this duo’s chemistry. Their program highlights the rhythmic vitality of Béla Bartók, the playful energy of Bobby McFerrin, and the innovative jazz language of Herbie Hancock. Listeners will hear echoes of Astor Piazzolla’s tango revolution, the rich swing of Duke Ellington, and the adventurous harmonies of Armenian musician Tigran Hamasyan alongside music by Academy Award winner Howard Shore. They also
