Desperate Affection: A comic thriller

I?m a big fan of both the actors in Desperate Affection. No one does outwardly fragile but inwardly sinewy like local actress Pascale Roger-McKeever and Theo Pitsiavis recently wowed me in Neptune?s Father and Sons.? So it pains me to have to say how much I disliked this ?comic thriller? by New York playwright Bruce Graham. I found the comic bits were strained and unfunny and as for the thrilling parts, there was not one twist or turn I did not see coming a mile off. ?I?m honestly not sure if the fault lies with the direction by?Liz Richardson or with Graham?s ridiculous script, or even with the fact that Roger-McKeever seems horribly miscast as?a ditzy chatterbox.? But much as I?d like to, I simply can?t recommend this show. (KW)
