In a modern comic fable, director Noah Baumbach explores New York, friendship, class, ambition, failure and redemption. Frances lives in the city but doesn’t really have a flat. She is a dance troop apprentice, but she‘s not really a dancer. She has a best friend, but they aren’t speaking. She throws herself headlong into her dreams, even as they dwindle. Frances wants so much more, yet continues to live her life with unaccountable joy and lightness.
