Lord Dalhousie: Patron and Collector

A National Gallery of Canada exhibition is making its way to the Dalhousie Art Gallery this week, in a packaged and slightly smaller version. Works commissioned by George Ramsay, the ninth Earl of Dalhousie and Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia from 1816-1820, will be on display until early March, including watercolours, sketches, lithographs, models and architectural drawings. The man was behind some major projects, including the oldest public monument in Quebec City, the first library in Halifax (now the Cambridge Military Library) and the gallery's home---Dalhousie University. If you're interested in learning more about the work, the exhibition's curator from the National Gallery, Ren? Villeneuve, will give two free tours---a French one Saturday, January 16 at 2pm, and an English one Sunday, January 17 at the same time. ?Holly Gordon
