Loresa Makonin Memorial Ride
The Halifax Cycling Coalition and Bicycle Nova Scotia will be holding a memorial ride for Loresa Makonin. Makonin was killed in a collision with a propane truck on October 7th, becoming the second person to be killed by riding a bicycle in the last two years. The ride will celebrate Makonin's life and recreate part of her final bicycle ride. The purpose of the event is to express positive support for better bicycle infrastructure, education and policy in Halifax.
Participants will ride down Herring Cove Road toward the intersection with Purcell's Cove Road, where the group will turn right, and finish at the bottom of the hill.
Makonin was killed at the intersection of Purcell's Cove Road and Herring Cove Road. The two hills at this intersection make for poor sightlines for all road users.
