Nipuktukowek Waisisk: Our Neighbors
Artist Aiden Gillis explores the life of urban Indigenous peoples in this collection of paintings, adding that for many of them city dwelling strips a much-needed connection to nature. In an attempt to restore this, Gillis presents portraits of wildlife that Indigenous peoples would typically encounter living in rural settings. The twist? He bestows them with their Mik'maw names and places them in more urban settings.
