Patrick Traer: A Survey

For over twenty years, Patrick Traer’s embroidered drawings and upholstered installations have been primarily concerned with the body’s fluidity, its incubation periods, its biological obsolescence and mythologies about mortality and human anatomy. More recently, his colourful, flamboyant and overtly sexual sculptures mimic how masculinities are enacted in a milieu of sports equipment, car interiors, industrial design and body building. Traer crafts complicated masculinities and embodies a stereotypically queer sensibility regarding flawless luxury and taste, proposing a playful morphology attuned to erotic desire and self parody.
