When: Wednesdays-Sundays, 8 p.m. Continues through Oct. 2 2010
The set is simple for Should I Be Doing This?: a red door and a red box. The premise is simple: actor/clown Ryan Doucette provides scripted and ad-libbed musings on the awkwardness of first times. (Think first dates, first kisses, and first time in bed together.) John Beale, director and co-creator of the show, provides a disembodied voice that manipulates Doucette like a puppet, commanding him to dance or wink or deliver his lines in different ways. Doucette has a warm and charming stage presence, and the show has some pretty funny moments, but it did fall flat in some spots. I guess you could say at times it was awkward (I found it especially so during a bit that could be titled ?Erections are Weird?), which may well be the point since feeling uncomfortable is the theme of the show. ?Kate Watson
