Tell me the truth about love: a musical evening with W.H. Auden

In an annual warm-up to the Halifax Opera Festival, the fest and the Central Library combine forces to "explore the relationship between composers and a featured poet." This year's bard of choice is W. H. Auden, who event organizers say kept the ancient alliance between poetry and singing alive like no other modern poet. He penned songs, ballads, lullabies and operas—using the latter to explore the truth about love. Here, Auden and his longtime collaborator, operatic master Benjamin Britten, are celebrated as the 20th century queer icons they are as Cabaret Songs is performed in its entirety.
