Canadian filmmaker Alanis Obomsawin chronicles the dispute between fisherman of New Brunswick First Nations community Esgenoopetitj and federal fishery officers in the early 2000s, asking “Why would government officials attack citizens for exercising rights that had been affirmed by the highest court in the land? What happened at Burnt Church?” Obomsawin casts her cinematic and intellectual nets to provide context.
