Till It Hurts

There’s a lot going on in Till It Hurts. The action runs the gamut from naked-speech dreams to off-stage karaoke with Bono and wings that descend from heaven when “Stephen Lewis” (Christian Murray in one of his multiple roles in this play) makes angelic pronouncements. If it all sounds a little off-the-wall, well it is. Ed Thomason plays a middle-aged professor named Seymour Mann who comes face to face with the emptiness of his life as he prepares to give a prestigious lecture. Shelley Thompson plays Esme, a telemarketer with the Stephen Lewis Foundation, who bursts into Mann’s life and turns it upside down. Although the cast is game and there’s plenty of physical humour to entertain, the writing itself is awfully wordy, meaning the laughs are not as frequent as they could be. (KW)
