Dogs are great and all, but I am very not into meeting dogs that are off-leash in random places, like the street outside my house. Please, please, please leash your dogs. Not everyone loves your dog as much as you do. —Big dogs freak me out

I'm in Toronto. Stuck here for two years. All I want to do is come home. I feel like an anonymous ant in a city that is impossible to know like Halifax. I want to complain about the Macdonald bridge closures. I want to have ridiculous debates about donairs. I want to take a ferry to work instead of a subway of zombies. Some people may want to get lost in this haze of drones. I want to come home. —ConcreteJungleBlues

I know your investments in the big oil are not turning much profit these days, but I take issue with where you're turning for extra cash. You pull in international students and charge them gargantuan tuition fees, but your screening is weak. This is unfair to the students who are getting crushed by expectations, it is also unfair to their peers and professors. I truly enjoy going to a school with such diversity, but I can't help but think it is for the wrong reasons. Why must you prey on people? —There's got to be another way

Giving somebody a $700 ticket for jaywalking or failing to push a cross button is absurd. People avoid letting their meters run out to escape a $25 dollar parking tickets. If they actually started to regularly enforce the $50 fine that most other provinces use for people caught jaywalking, that would be a sufficient deterrent. There is no need to create a punishment that well exceeds that of a speeding ticket, passing a school bus and not wearing a bicycle helmet for failing to press a crosswalk button. By all means, crack down on jaywalking, crack down on drivers who don't yield to pedestrians, but be bloody reasonable about it. — Safety my ass

Let's be clear, when this bill passed, it was approved by every sitting member of parliament. Not one Nay vote. So I want to know where the veterans sit in Justin Trudeau's list of priorities. Currently, he is running around spending money that the country doesn't have. Will he include the veterans in on this shopping trip? I sure hope so. Once reality hits, I don't believe that he will do as much as he could and should for our veterans. —rightfully impatient

A young-ish male student, absolutely covered in cologne, got on the No. 1 (Mumford) bus this morning and sat beside me. This would have been fine (albeit smelly) if the entire bus had not been otherwise empty. It might still have been fine if he had not chosen to stretch out, exceeding the visible boundaries of his seat into my personal space, and proceed to try to rest his hand under my ass. This encounter has left me feeling absolutely disgusted and humiliated. I cried when describing it to my coworkers. It is bad enough that I have grown to expect unwanted male attention on the streets and buses of Halifax at night, but now it seems that I have been painfully naive in believing the city to be safer by day. I hope anyone reading this will take a good look at the behaviour exhibited by themselves, their friends, and the people they see in public, because this can not be tolerated. Openly disapprove. Explain that it is not funny, not a joke, or a type of flirtation. Do not expect me or anyone else who encounters this sort of harassment to be flattered by the attention. My well practiced "resting bitch face" may deter some people from approaching me and potentially harassing me, but it certainly didn't work today. I can only hope that the threat of being held accountable by the public and by their peers may give these misguided people pause before ruining someone else's morning, afternoon, day, or evening. I am tired of this. —Disheartened Halifax Female

There are men out there who are sexual predators and are very good at manipulating women to believe that they are "good guys" who care and are a support to you. Some of these men are disabled and are able to present themselves as being "solid" great guys meanwhile they use their disabled and benign prescence to confuse you and manipulate you and some of these types of men are downright viscious and brutal but you would never guess it by their timid and so-called helpless demeanour. There are men who can really hide their true motives very very well and so I learned the extreme hared way to never, ever judge a book by it's cover what may at first appear as an innocent and caring person could turn out ot be the most vile enemy you have ever known. So just be very, very cautious ladies cause evil lurks among us and it could be anyone even possibly the innocent looking guy. —E. V.

Not like they didn't suffer enough - bitches and male dogs that is - before, under A-300 (the one that started out with the infamous cat licenses). Now HRM Council virtually criminalizes dog by-law offences with the new A-700, with fines of $100 up to $5000 (without any hint of a graduated scale to pinpoint the amount) and added a host of over-the-top constraints on dogs deemed dangerous to boot. Problem is, the law defines dangerous pretty broadly! ANY dog is dangerous if their owner is convicted on a charge of owning a dog that attacks - and an attack can be a "bite" or a dog that "threatens" - both subjective; nothing sets out what a bite is (through skin?) or the standard for "threaten". Dogs are not criminals and their owners have constitutional rights, but you'd never know it in Halifax! —Humane Halifax for BETTER Animal Control in HRM

There's a page on Facebook titled "The republic of western canada" mostly spreading hate about the maritime provinces, engaging in Harper worship and calling for the separation from canada of B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan & Manitoba. No big deal right? Except in the past month I've kept my eye on these hate mongers as their group has grown to almost 13, 000 members! If you don't like Trudeau that's fine, I'm just glad Harper is gone but Trudeau is just another politician to me. He's going to lie, steal, be a jerk, etc.

What the western canadians who support separation don't understand is that if they were successful North America would be destroyed. Imagine a country with B.C - Manitoba on one side as a nation, Ontario, Quebec & the maritimes as a series of separate nation states and Russia in control of NWT and the Yukon.

Look it's one thing for Cons to stop their feet and mourn the loss of dear leader. If nothing else, Harper was a polarizing force. But don't call yourself a 'patriot' if you want to destroy Canada. —Idiots
