We all misplace, lose, or forget our personal items at times. It just happens. It's happened to me a few times over the years here and I've been fortunate each time to have my things returned. A coat, wallet, bike, and hockey gear to be exact. I was pleasantly surprised and had an instant "Like" for Haligonians and their honest actions.
I've recently had a string of bad luck and left a backpack behind by mistake at a popular downtown eatery and lost a phone at a local watering hole. I hoped that someone would have made an effort to return my property considering in both cases my information was clearly obtainable to trace it back to me, the rightful owner.
Honest hearts produce honest actions. Perhaps the long, cold harsh winter has frozen the hearts of some of this cities residents. Or, maybe we just live among a discouraging amount of dishonest people.
Either way, I'd like to send out a HUGE FUCK YOU to the PIECE OF SHIT COCKSUCKER who claimed my bag for his own and another GO FUCK YOURSELF PRICK to whoever found my hardly worth taking, older model smartphone and couldn't use the email address clearly marked on it to return it back to me.
Karma ... will find you.

Attention to every paranoid old lady or thugged out lowrider who has rolled up their windows and locked their doors after making eye contact with a defeated, down-on-our-luck hobo panhandling on the meridian: life sucks enough for us already, hobos are not going to sell themselves to prison for stealing the measly 35 cents you have in your ashtray.
we do, however, have feelings, and dealing with pretentious people like yourself - going so far out of your way to avoid any contact with us, be it a passing whiff of our sad souls, or a melanholy mumble of "have a nice day," - doesn't particularly motivate any of us to work towards assimilating ourselves into society because that means we'll have to deal with more pricks like you.

OMG, according to what I've been hearing, the government's decision to gut the NS Film Tax Credit is going to kill the local entertainment business!!! They did this without apparently even consulting with the industry experts. The show "Haven" may already be leaving. There may be good news, though, as I've heard this may not be a done deal! If you're as pissed as I am, let the politicians know!!!!! —Local Job Supporter!!

Stepped off the corner from South Park Street into a side street--yep, still walking in the street in mid-April--only to be nearly run over by someone in a white SUV reversing at high speed in to the curb then slamming on the brakes. Please remember that there are long stretches of sidewalk (usually on the sunless north side of neighbourhood streets) that are STILL under 8" of ice, forcing pedestrians to detour. Ditto to the 2 motorists on 2 separate days who drove along the last bit of Victoria Road at very high speed to South Park (where there still are huge corner snowbanks creating blind spots), slamming to a stop narrowly avoiding killing me and another pedestrian halfway across Victoria: please be mindful that streets are for EVERYONE, not just cars. —Will I live to see Spring with drivers like these around?

To the three hooligans who egged a scared kitten sitting in the middle of Quinpool Road around 2am on Saturday: you are terrible people and you frightened me, too. Get a life. —Late Night Walker

Went to buy the big new book on capitalism and climate justice, This Changes Everything, and the god-damned thing cost $40. This is a problem, and this changes nothing. If you want to spread awareness and equip people with the knowledge to fight against the injustices and effects of capitalism, make the knowledge accessible to the people that are most affected by this system. Meanwhile, I'm left with the decision to go hungry for a week and learn about climate justice, or nourish myself and re-read all of my old Vonnegut books. So it goes. —Cognitive Dissonance

Ah yes, thank you for gutting that tax credit. Yes, you know the one. The one that employed my 24-year-old partner. The partner that I, 25, moved from Manitoba to Nova Scotia to be with. We were looking at buying a house. We were looking at starting a family. We were 40-65 years worth of guaranteed provincial tax income just waiting to happen. We “were”. Just like our jobs “were”. And now, just like the industries that formerly employed us, we “are” gone.

I 100 percent agree that it shouldn’t have been cut that low. It is indeed a travesty. Only thing I got to say is it was not an industry where anyone could have gotten involved like some are making it out to be. To get involved in that industry you had to/still have to jump and climb through so many hoops and know the right people just to have the most bit part of minuscule job. Again sucks it happened... —Jacko
