We've had some great trips together in great cities—Montreal, Detroit (yeah rock on!), et cetera. But the last two weeks have reminded me how f-ing great Halifax is. I didn't want to tell you the day you left for Italy I lost my job—why worry you? The weather has been great and made this bearable without you, and getting messages from you has really helped. I love you, and looking forward to gettin' back to work when you return this week! xo

Today was garbage day. The first garbage day since my partner of over 25 years passed away. We had so many family and friends gather at our home to support and join us in our grief. It was a wonderful celebration of his life. As I organized the garage this morning, I realized my "kitchen angels" from near and far, did not fully understand our "garbage and recycling rules." We had TWO huge green garbage bags and not a clear bag in sight. I left a note on the garbage cans explaining the situation and asked them to take the extra bag "this one time.” They took all the garbage and took their time to leave a note saying, "That's no problem at all. Sorry for your loss,” Signed their names with a byline: “Your friendly neighbourhood garbage men." Such compassion warmed my heart.

Shoutout to the petite woman with long brown hair helping an older, visually-impaired woman crossing the treacherous, torn-up Oxford and Quinpool intersection on Tuesday morning. I was watching from the other side of the street and when I first saw you crossing with your arm around her, I assumed she was a family member or friend. Then I heard her thank you politely and realized you were just helping out. Good on ya. I love witnessing these random acts of kindness.

I still think about you quite often! Whether you realized it or not, your charm and small talks helped me through one of the hardest times in my life. The little grins we exchanged for weeks before I finally got the courage to talk to you, I'll always remember that. There was something about you. I couldn't just sit there admiring you, without giving it a shot. Thank you sweetness :) I sincerely hope all is well with you and your Angel!! :)

To the Asian breakdancer at the Quinpool/Oxford bus stop on Friday listening to your music on your headphones having your own breakdance party: YOU KEEP DOING YOU!

You made my cinnamon bun French toast, and while I riffed you quite terribly, mostly it's because you are super cute and I'm awkward. One day I may get some courage and ask you out for a drink. Between the facial hair and your smile, both me and my roomie were quite solid in our conviction of how adorable you are!

Every week I look forward to getting the next instalment of Welcome to Hellifax. I cut them out and keep them in a book. This comic really is perfect for someone who was born and raised in Halifax as I was, and who loves post-apocalypic stories to boot! Please keep them coming!

The other day I came to your stand about ten minutes before it closed, and asked if you still had coffee left. I was tired from work and was hoping to grab a quick cup before dance. You didn't have any coffee on, I said that was fine, but you put on a pot for me anyway and gave me a leftover cookie. Thank you for being so nice xo

To the man who helped me pay for my groceries at a certain Bedford grocery store today (Sunday) when I came up short on money: Thank you so very much.
